Arsenic Problem or not?

Arsenic in chicken feed being studied
Ellen K. Silbergeld, a researcher at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, was cited as saying in a paper published Monday in the journal Environmental Health Perspectives that the poultry industry's widespread use of drugs to raise chickens is exposing people who eat them to more arsenic than previously estimated and that the drugs could create manure that is contaminating Eastern Shore ground water.

A World Health Organization coordinator for control of zoonoses (Dr. Francois Meslin)has said we must "brace for future outbreaks of diseases like bird flu that leap the species barrier from animals to humans, and that lessons learned from SARS, mad cow disease and other illnesses have taught experts to be on the lookout for such outbreaks, but predicting the next epidemic will still be tough",

Good Report on Antibiotics

Scientific research published today shows that use of two macrolide animal antibiotics, tylosin* and tilmicosin*, does not adversely affect the safety of the food supply. The findings were reported today in the peer-reviewed publication, the Journal of Food Protection.
